4th Annual Earth Day Events

  • Google Calendar ICS

UPDATE: Earth Day Clean Ups have been cancelled due to inclement weather. We hope to have some in the warmth of summer! The Recycling Event is still on - see the Earth Day newsletter and event reminder for details on what we are collecting. Happy Earth Day!

There are two options to participate in Earth Day Activities this year - clean ups and recycling! See below for details:

Earth Day Clean Ups **Cancelled due to weather**

Earth Day Clean Ups are co-hosted by the SCPNA Climate Action Committee and Executive Committee and there are two opportunities to participate:

1) Saturday, April 20th, 10-11:30AM - This event will be hosted in partnership with our neighborhood Girl Scout Troop and will take place in City Park. The event will start and end on the park side of the traffic light at Steele and 17th Ave. If you plan to borrow materials for the clean up, you must start and end at this location at the stated times. Cancelled due to weather
2) Sunday, April 21st, 10-11:30AM - This event will be in City Park and will start and end on the park side of the traffic light at Garfield and 17th Ave. If you plan to borrow materials for the clean up, you must start and end at this location at the stated times. Cancelled due to weather

Those who participate in City Park clean ups will need to sign a waiver provided by Denver Parks & Recreation. If you sign up for these dates, you must review the volunteer guidelines and bring a signed copy of this waiver for each participant to the meeting location.

In order to be prepared for the number of people that will join each event, please click to RSVP by April 18th at 11:59 PM Mountain Time.

If you have any questions about the events or this registration form, please contact Ellen Roth, President of SCPNA at southcitypark@gmail.com

If neither of these times work for you - we welcome you to organize your own clean up! Get a group of neighbors together and tackle an alley or a street! If your event takes place on the 20th or 21st outside the organized times above, contact southcitypark@gmail.com to reserve some clean up supplies.

Recycling Event

We are also offering recycling drop-off for hard-to-recycle items! Here's what we can take:

  • Plastic film - clean and stretch thin plastics, primarily HDPE (#2) and LDPE (#4) plastics. In order to be properly recycled, remove any food residue and make sure it's dry.

  • Household batteries - all used household batteries: alkaline, hearing aid, rechargeable, and small lithium-ion batteries. Please tape battery terminals for safety, particularly 9-volt, lithium and any large batteries.

  • Lightbulbs - all household variety light bulbs: LEDs, CFLs, small fluorescent, and incandescent.

  • Pet leashes, collars, and harnesses - please no broken or frayed items, no pet clothes

  • Paint - both oil and latex paint, stain, and varnish are all accepted!  At this time we are not accepting spray paint.

Note that we are NOT accepting items outside of the above things.

Items can be dropped off on the front porch at 1537 Monroe Street between April 20th and 22nd. Please refrain from dropping off anything outside of those dates.

If you enjoy seeing programs like this in our neighborhood, please consider supporting SCPNA by joining! Your $10 a year helps fund community events like these ones.
