City Park Neighborhoods Election Open House

Join us for our September meeting, which will be a Candidate/Ballot Issue Open House on 9/16 from 7-8:30PM at Montview Manor (1663 Steel Street). Candidates and groups that we can find backing or opposing ballot initiatives on the November 2026 ballot have been invited to this event to meet with neighbors and share their perspectives and plans in a meet & greet (not a panel or presentation) format. Clerk Lopez will kick us off with an overview of the election and then there will be mingling. We will also provide some light desserts!

Join in the fun for our next event in Around the Corner - a series of social events to support Bluebird District businesses through BRT Construction! We all know that mutual aid starts locally. Around the Corner was designed by the South City Park Neighborhood Association to give neighbors an opportunity to connect with one another and socialize, while also giving them a chance to direct our dollars back into our local economy.

On May 9th from 3-5 PM, we'll be at My Local Boutique! Sip on some champagne, have a little snack, and browse the collection for a new outfit! Discounts will be offered on all purchases made during the event, compliments of the Around the Corner series. Can't make it on this date? Consider My Local Boutique for that special event dress, some new athleisure wear, a new work look, or your casual brunch fit! They have it all!

Earth Day Clean Ups are co-hosted by the SCPNA Climate Action Committee and Executive Committee and there are two opportunities to participate:

1) Saturday, April 25th, 9:30-11 AM - This event will take place in City Park and will start and end on the park side of the traffic light at Steele and 17th Ave. If you plan to borrow materials for the clean up, you must start and end at this location at the stated times.
2) Sunday, April 26th, 1:30-3 PM - This event will take place in City Park and will start and end on the park side of the traffic light at Steele and 17th Ave. If you plan to borrow materials for the clean up, you must start and end at this location at the stated times. 

Those who participate in City Park clean ups will need to sign a waiver provided by Denver Parks & Recreation. If you sign up for these dates, you must review the volunteer guidelines and bring a signed copy of this waiver for each participant to the meeting location.

Recycling Hard-to-Recycle Items April 25-26th


We are also offering recycling drop-off for hard-to-recycle items!

Here's what we can take at 1537 Monroe Street:

  • Plastic film - clean and stretch thin plastics, primarily HDPE (#2) and LDPE (#4) plastics. This includes ziplock bags, newspaper bags, produce bags, etc. In order to be properly recycled, remove any food residue and make sure it's dry.  

  • Household batteries - all used household batteries: alkaline, hearing aid, rechargeable, and small lithium-ion batteries. Please tape battery terminals for safety, particularly 9-volt, lithium and any large batteries.

  • Lightbulbs - all household variety light bulbs: LEDs, CFLs, small fluorescent, and incandescent.

Paint recycling will be collected at 1551 Jackson Street:

  • Paint - both oil and latex paint, stain, and varnish are all accepted!  At this time we are not accepting spray paint or paint thinner.

Note that we are NOT accepting items outside of the above things. Please do not leave anything not being collected for your neighbors who are kindly offering this opportunity to dispose of.

Plastic film, batteries, and lightbulbs can be dropped off on the front porch at 1537 Monroe Street - please place where stipulated. Paint can be dropped of at 1551 Jackson Street near the front door along the fence.

Items are being collected between April 25th and 26th. Please refrain from dropping off anything outside of those dates.

Twinkles & Tails Holiday Parade

Get ready to shine bright at SCPNA's first annual holiday parade! Neighbors are invited to light up their leashes, drape their jackets, and deck out their wagons with sparkling holiday lights and join in the fun. The parade will step off at 5:30PM and wind up and down 16th Avenue between Steele & Garfield streets, spreading cheer for all to see. Judges will award prizes from local businesses for the most creative and festive decorations, so bring your holiday spirit and your best ideas! For those who’d rather watch, cozy viewing areas will be set up along the route, so everyone can enjoy the glow of the season together.

Details:

  • Meet at 1592 Madison St. parking lot. with a travel mug for your beverage, a treat to share, and your holiday cheer!

  • Contest entries will be made between 5-5:30PM. Judging will take place at the parade step-off at 5:30PM and winners will be announced at the conclusion of the parade. 

  • The parade route goes west on the sidewalk on south side of 16th to Steele and circles back to Garfield on the north sidewalk, and then crosses back to the south sidewalk for a block and a half to the starting point. 

  • Viewing areas will be located along the route if you prefer to watch instead of walk!

Neighbors-giving

Join your neighbors for a cozy and cheerful Thanksgiving celebration with the South City Park Neighborhood Association! Together, we’ll take time to connect, reflect, and celebrate another wonderful year in our community. Local city agencies and representatives, bluebird business owners, neighbors, and friends are all welcome to attend, so it’s a great chance to spend time together and strengthen the ties that make our neighborhood so special. Please ask any questions you have of the Executive Committee during this time - our annual elections and member survey will go out after the meeting. Currently, all Executive Committee members are running, unopposed, for another term.

Please bring a finger food or handheld treat to share - something easy to enjoy while we're mingling. We’ll also have a postcard station where you can write notes of gratitude to friends, family, or neighbors and spread a little thankfulness beyond the gathering. If you would like to bring donations for community members in need, consult this donation list. All donations will be given to the Bluebird District drive. 

Most of all, we’re thankful for you - our neighbors who make South City Park such a vibrant and caring community. We can’t wait to celebrate together!

SCPNA goes to the Broadway Halloween Parade!

Get ready to march with your neighbors and friends on Saturday, October 25th. Our theme is “undead”, so come dressed as a ghoul, ghost, or zombie—or get creative with your own take! This is one of the most fun events of the Halloween season, and we want you there with us.

The parade kicks off at 5 PM at 5th and Broadway, ending at Alameda. We’ll meet beforehand, no later than 4:45 PM, at the parking lot behind Denver Health (6th and Bannock) to get ready.

What you should bring:

  • An awesome costume! Undead is the theme, but any costume is welcome.

  • Family and friends! The more, the merrier.

  • Candy or “throws” (beads, toys, etc.) to hand out to the crowd. It’s one of the best parts of the parade!

If you haven't been since they opened in February... Mama Jo's is a family-owned food truck turned brick and mortar in the restaurant space formerly occupied by Steve's Snappin Dogs at Colfax and Monroe. They offer some award-winning chicken biscuits and a full slate of BBQ offerings - which includes wings on Wednesday and brisket on Saturday and Sundays. Don't sleep on the desserts! Pastry Chef Jodi makes a mean cookie and hand pie!

Around the Corner is designed to give neighbors an opportunity to connect with one another and socialize, while also giving us a chance to direct our dollars back into our local economy. Bring your kids for an Italian soda, grab a coffee or cocktail with your partner or your friends, or come on your own to connect with your community. We'll be happy to see you, however you show up!

You'll get a free, specially made cookie with the purchase of any beverage* if you're an SCPNA neighbor - just mention you're here for Around the Corner.

This month, around the corner will be hosted in partnership with Hooked on Colfax! If you haven't been... Hooked on Colfax is a warm, inclusive coffee shop near Colfax and Steele. The space features multiple seating areas including two basement lounges, a cozy back patio, and a front patio making it ideal for both working and socializing. Rotating art displays, Sunday pop up vendors, a great selection of cards, magnets, mugs, and the cutest onesies you've ever seen help round out the vibe. The menu includes locally roasted coffee, craft cocktails, tea, kombucha, beer, wine, whiskey, and treats in the ever-rotating pastry case.

1) Friday, April 22nd, 6:30-8PM - This event will be in City Park and will start and end on the park side of the traffic light at Steele and 17th Ave. 
2) Saturday, April 23rd, 10-11:30AM - This event will be in City Park and will start and end on the park side of the traffic light at Steele and 17th Ave.
3) Saturday, April 23rd, 2-3:30PM - This event will start and end at the corner of 16th and St. Paul. From there, groups can split off and clean up streets or alleys. 
4) Sunday, April 24th, 10-11:30AM - This event will start and end at the corner of 16th and Garfield. From there, groups can split off and clean up streets or alleys.

Everyone must start and end at the meeting location to pick up and then turn in clean up supplies. Supplies are first come, first served, so if you have your own grabbers, buckets, or gloves, please consider bringing them along.

Those who participate in City Park clean ups on the evening of the 22nd or morning of the 23rd will also need to review the volunteer guidelines and sign this waiver provided by Denver Parks & Recreation. You must bring a signed copy for each participant to the meeting location.
